Sep 4, 2015 | 11:08 PM

The Regina Pats scored three unanswered goals in the first and second periods in posting a 7-4 win over Prince Albert in the Raiders preseason opener.

Colton Kroeker and Jake Elmer had two goals and one assist each, while Jake Leschyshyn had a goal and two helpers.

Defenseman Brennan Riddle scored his first WHL goal late in the first period and added two assists with rookies Cody Thompson, Josh Maser and Carson Miller rounding out the Raider scoring.

The Pats took advantage of defensive breakdowns in the Prince Albert zone to open leads of 3-0 in the first period and 6-1 in the second and scored a shorthanded goal in the third.

The Raiders poured 15 of their 37 shots on goal against 16-year-old rookie Jordan Hollett in the third period while Raider starter Curtis Meger, making his first WHL in his home town gave up 6 goals on 15 shots. 16 year old Ian Scott made 9 saves on 10 shots in the second half of the game.

Both teams went with young lineups.  Riddle was the lone returnee on the Raider back line while Reid Gardiner, Simon Stransky and Dylan Stewart the only veterans up front. The Pats also elected to sit 11 veterans.  The Raiders were 0-for-4 on the power play and gave up a shorthanded goal against, while going 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The Raiders close out their Regina tournament with a 2pm date Saturday against the Calgary Hitmen.  That game will be broadcast on 900 CKBI.
