PA businesses make the ABEX shortlist

The finalists for the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce ABEX awards have been announced and Prince Albert is getting a few nods.

Harold’s Family Foods is a finalist in the service award category, which recognizes businesses for outstanding customer service.

“It’s means we are doing something right. We’re competing with the big boys and you know it’s a great feeling,” said Owner Byron Guy.

Harold’s Family Foods has been open for 55 years in Prince Albert.

Guy said they have an advantage over some of the bigger chains.

“People can come in and get out fairly quick because we’re not that big, it doesn’t take you half an hour to walk around,” he said.

Another finalist is the Prince Albert Co-Operative Association in the category for community involvement.

“The award is a really nice kind of validation but community involvement has always been part of what the Co-op does.  The stores started popping up because of the community,” said marketing manager Cara O’Stelmaschuk.

Stelmaschuk said the Co-op is just always pleased to be asked to help support the hockey team or give money to a music festival.

The Prince Albert Co-op is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Other local finalists include Econo Timber Mart for the Community Cornerstone award, and Northridge Development is a finalist in two categories for customer service and focus on youth entrepreneurship.

“We are very impressed by the number and caliber of nomination received this year,” said Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce in a press release.

There were 89 nominations submitted to the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce this year, representing businesses from all over the province.

The Conexus Credit Union is the sponsor of this year’s awards, which will be handed out in Saskatoon on Oct. 24 at TCU place.
