P.A. author heads home to give home advice

Aug 20, 2015 | 4:35 PM

Prince Albert-born author Shane Wolffe will be back in his hometown offering up tips to future and current homeowners.

Wolffe, author of How to Futureproof Your Home, will be at the Gateway Mall on Friday to give a presentation on affordable and energy efficient housing.

Part of Wolffe’s objective is to help promote and educate the public on energy saving and renewable technologies.

“I basically wrote that book as a marketing piece for builders who want to go above and beyond so that it’s easier to show clients,” Wolffe said.

As an engineer who has lived in this climate, Wolffe has experience with the area. He said he’s hoping home owners can read the book and builders can have a convincing argument for implementing his ideas.

Currently residing in Saskatoon, Wolffe will be moving to Germany to continue research on this very topic.

Wolffe says that even though his book is written from an engineer perspective, it is intended for anyone –especially those in Saskatchewan.

“People in Saskatchewan, we seem to think that we have a ton of space and our environment is relatively clean, but if we don’t take care of it, it can go downhill,” said Wolffe. “I think that people are starting to catch onto that, and that’s why this is important.”

According to Wolffe, there are simple ways we can save energy and money.

“Put on a sweater if it’s cold, you know? If you a build a home that’s built like a paper cup, it’s not going to retain heat or retain the cold as well as a thermos will,” said Wolffe. “Let’s build thermoses rather than paper cups.”

Wolffe will be at Coles in the Gateway Mall at noon on Friday August 21, to promote his book and to give a short presentation.
