The federal election campaign continues and one northern Saskatchewan candidate is ready to use her political experience on a bigger scale.

Georgina Jolibois is the NDP candidate for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchhill River.

She brings over a decade of experience in municipal government as the mayor of La Loche. She is also the chairperson for New North, a non-profit municipal association focused on bringing adequate housing and maintaining infrastructure in northern Saskatchewan.

“Being the mayor for 12 years, many experiences that I’ve gained will come into play,” Jolibois said.

Jolibois said she’s is excited to use the longer-than-usual campaign to her benefit.

“I believe there are many benefits to a longer campaign. One of them is it will allow me to visit as many communities as I can and hear and listen to as many constituents within the riding as I can,” said Georgina Jolibois.

Jolibois has been visiting constituents around northern Saskatchewan and intends to continue doing so throughout the campaign.

Issues that Jolibois is focusing on include senior benefits, minimum wage, health care and the environment.

“Environment is an issue that is coming up consistently. Protecting the environment and looking at restoring the regulation of protecting the rivers and lakes in northern Saskatchewan.”

“I’m working really hard to earn the trust of the voters,” Jolibois said. “One of the things the voters are really saying is that this is a time for a change. They are really engaged and are really talking.”

The other candidates in this riding are Rob Clark (Cons.), Lawrence Joseph (Lib.), and Warren Koch (Green).
