Jared Bear’s mom organizing remembrance walk on the anniversary of his death

“It’s still really, really hard for us to cope, we’ve been having troubles trying to cope with our grief the best that we can,” said Adam. “The kids are grieving as well.”

“I can’t believe it’s already been one year.”

Adam said she wanted to organize the walk to raise awareness about impaired driving and to celebrate her little boy.

Getting choked up, Adam said she remembers her son fondly every day.

“He used to come up to me and hug me. Every morning I would get that from him. He would always come up to me and hug me, and it didn’t matter if his friends were around.”

“He would give me a hug and say ‘I lah lah’ which was how he used to say I love you.”

She said it’s been difficult without him around.

“He was such a big, kind-hearted kid,” said Adam.

Bear would’ve turned 13 this August. Adam said she’s hoping that their friends and family will come out to help support one another.

“We all want justice for him,” said Adam. “It’s just a chance to show support for us and for Jared.”

The criminal case into Bear’s death is still before the courts. Adam said the family hopes something will be done.

“It’s not fair,” said Adam. “He didn’t get a chance to do a lot of stuff…he was just a kid.”

Gordon Morris Crain was charged with impaired driving causing death, along with five other charges in relation to the incident. Crain pleaded not guilty in March and will be in court again for a two-day preliminary hearing starting on Aug. 24. His trial date has not yet been set.
