This is also Liza Brown’s second grant. She’s receiving $7,500 through the Indigenous Pathways Initiative.

This grant is allocated for a music project that incorporates Metis and First Nations elements with contemporary folk music.

Brown says she’ll put the money towards finding specialized artists to collaborate with including fiddlers and powwow drummers.

Riverside Public School received $10,000 to go towards the ArtsSmarts program.

Educator and organizer Troy Parenteau says that the money will help amp up their music program.

“It’s important that our children have access to the arts, to artists, and this money helps us get there,” he said.

The ArtsSmarts program allows students to participate in traditional Metis Dance. The grant will allow the program to bring in guest artists and to expand their performance opportunities.
