Sunday Fire Update – Government of Saskatchewan
The La Ronge, Air Ronge & Lac La Ronge Indian Band evacuation was completed around midnight last night, with no major delays or complications. There are a number of people remaining in those communities to support operations there.
The province has put in a request to the federal government for military assistance in fighting fires. Canadian Forces are already preparing to help with evacuation operations and support. Over 50 communities have partial or full evacuations in place.
Today, over 660 firefighters are on the ground with 64 aircraft support. Air support will fly out of Prince Albert, Meadow Lake, and out of La Ronge when smoke is not a deterrent.
There are 110 active fires burning. Firefighters are confronting the Egg fire (threatening La Ronge, Air Ronge & Lac La Ronge Indian Band), the Eli fire (threatening Wadin Bay & Sucker River), the Montreal Lake fire (contained), the Senec fire (threatening Pinehouse). Other fires on the west side of the province appear to be stable.
