Crews fixing up rocky roads south of St. Louis

A whole segment of pavement has been ripped up to be replaced on Highway 2 near Hoey, at a cost of $7.6 million.

The ministry of highways is re-aligning and re-paving about 8.6 kilometres of Highway 2 and creating a new access to Hoey, which will be about one kilometre long.

The timeline of grading the new stretch predicts crews will be done within three to four weeks. In July they’ll move on to the month-long project of paving.

A detour has been in place near Hoey since the start of June, and so far the R.M. of St. Louis’ reeve Henry Gareau said there haven’t been too many complaints. The increasing dustiness on the detour’s grid has been an issue for homeowners near the road, but Gareau said crews have been watering it to reduce that issue.
