Accused in Shellbrook school stabbing still in custody

May 26, 2015 | 5:24 PM

More than a week after a stabbing inside a Shellbrook school, the 19-year-old student accused of attacking a classmate is still in custody.

On Tuesday, Michael Rudolph was scheduled for a show cause hearing at Prince Albert Provincial Court related to his charges of aggravated assault and carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

The charges relate to an incident at W.P. Sandin Public School on May 15 that sent a girl to hospital with what were described as serious injuries.

The RCMP reported the student, who is under the age of 18, was stabbed as she was exiting a classroom.

The bail report ordered for Rudolph was ready and had been reviewed by his defence lawyer when he appeared in court on Tuesday, but his defence said she’d been instructed not to proceed with a show cause hearing at this time.

Rudolph, who has short dark hair and glasses, sat silently in the prisoner’s box as this was discussed.

He remains in custody by consent, and is scheduled to return to court on Friday.

paNOW has contacted the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division for comment on the victim’s condition, and will receive an update on Wednesday.
