VIDEO/UPDATE: Crews tackle Wahpeton-area grass fire

May 17, 2015 | 3:09 PM

A grass fire broke out on Wahpeton Dakota First Nation over the long weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, after 2 p.m., Buckland Fire and Rescue and Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management (SERM) responded to the fire.

A witness described the fire’s location as just south of Township Road at the intersection past the gas station.

Aircrafts dropped fire retardant in the area, and a witness was told fire crews were trying to save a house from being enveloped by the fire.

Buckland Fire reports four tankers and 14 members were involved in the response. Members were on scene for about three hours putting out hot spots.
