Windy weekend knocks tree onto power line

May 16, 2015 | 1:54 PM

A dozen firefighters responded to a fire caused by strong winds that downed a tree over a power line near the Highway 2 Christopher Lake turnoff on Saturday afternoon.

Containing the ensuing grass fire took three hours for the Lakeland and District Fire Department, as winds of up to 55 kilometres an hour proved to be a challenge for crews.

The incident knocked out power in Christopher Lake, Emma Lake, Little Red River First Nation and surrounding rural areas and towns.

SaskPower reported that power was restored by 3 p.m., however people in the area were still experiencing issues in the hour following that.
