Synchronized Swimming

May 14, 2015 | 8:17 AM

The athletes had a lot of fun and did their best at the Canadian Prairie Invitational in Saskatoon last weekend. Building on their performances at the Sadie Caulder meet in Regina earlier in the season, all athletes showed a marked improvement since the start of the year. The team received three gold (8u, Masters 30-39 and 11-12 trio). One of the Novice athletes (first year swimmer aged 11+) was ranked seventh in the standings for figures in her category.

The P.A. Pikes can only provide these valuable opportunities for athletes because of the dedication of volunteers and parents, and the generous support of sponsors. Without local business sponsorship, the club would not be able to cover costs associated with pool time; support is the cornerstone to success in ensuring membership fees are within reach for interested families.

Come see what synchronized swimming is all about at the Synchro Swim – See it! Try it! Event to take place Saturday, June 6, 2015, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Marion Aquatics! Everyone welcome – age 6 to 60+. Basic swimming skills required. Bring a bathing suite, goggles and a nose clip if you have one.

The generous dedication of coaches Jen Gerrond and Connie Lam has provided the team with strong guidance and leadership.

Additional messages:

In addition to the skill development, synchro is a real ‘team’ sport where newer swimmers can learn from our more experienced athletes.

The club will attend the Saskatchewan Prairie Invitational in Saskatoon in early May Earlier in the season, the team attended Diane Lemon Invitation (Regina) and the Marnie Eistetter Figures Meet (North Battleford) where they gained valuable experience. Each of the swimmers improved her figures scores over the year before.

The P.A. Pikes Synchronized Swimming Club was created in 2012 and teaches swimming techniques and synchro skills, strength, agility and flexibility. The P.A. Pikes offers a range of programs: the recreation program is for those aged 7 wanting to have fun, improve their swimming techniques and learn synchro skills; the competitive program is targeted towards confident swimmers age 9 and up who want to learn figures, routines and compete provincially; for people over 20 years of age, the masters’ program provides an opportunity to improve swim strokes and synchronized techniques, and keep fit.
