Mulcair says Sask. ready for change
After four federal elections without any seats won in Saskatchewan, NDP leader Thomas Mulcair says he feels the province is ready to turn orange.
“I’m looking to win the majority of seats in Saskatchewan,” Mulcair told reporters while on a campaign stop in Regina on Friday. “With the type of positive, optimistic view that Jack (Layton) brought to politics, saying the types of things that we can accomplish together.”
The NDP regularly held seats in Saskatchewan before boundary changes that combined urban and rural ridings. Now with new boundary changes, Mulcair says he thinks the NDP support will shine.
“The new map means that we will have a good proportion of the seats here,” he said.
Mulcair went on to say he feels his party has a lot to offer people in Saskatchewan. He highlighted their stance on child care, grain shipping and lowering the retirement age back to 65 as some of the items that will resonate in the province.
