A Regina cat is getting thousands of dollars of support
Animal lovers are letting one Regina cat know there are people out there who care.
On Wednesday rescue officers were alerted to a cat that had its paws and legs wrapped tightly in black electrical tape. The loss of blood to the cat’s limbs caused tissue loss and infection.
He was given the name Bruce Almighty and is now recovering from surgery at the Regina Humane Society. Executive director Lisa Koch says they are hopeful he’ll pull through.
“He’s eating and he’s bright and alert but we’re going to see if we can see some further improvement in those paws, in particular on his front legs, before we decide what our next steps will be.”
Koch says they will consider amputating his front leg on Monday.
To help pay for Bruce’s care the humane society started a fundraiser on gofundme.com. Koch said they have asked for online donations only once before, when a dog named Bear needed special surgery to fix his broken leg.
“That dog did receive the surgery he needed and was actually adopted by one of the staff at the veterinary hospital in Saskatoon. It really is a powerful means of helping animals in need.”
By Sunday morning the Humane Society had raised over $11,000 for Bruce Almighty, which far exceeds their goal of $5,000.
Koch says all money that is raised in excess will be put to good use.
“We’re going to see a huge influx of animals over the next couple of months who are also going to be in need of care. So the gofundme is really going to help Bruce Almighty as well as animals who are really going to need it.”
