KISS’ Paul Stanley shows support for P.A. girl

It’s not every day you get a chance to meet a famous rock star, especially one that makes special plans to visit you in the hospital.

Last week, four-year-old Arabella Carter met KISS frontman Paul Stanley.

Carter is in Beverly Hills, California, recovering from an ear operation. Born without outer ears (microtia), and is unable to hear without a hearing apparatus. She was flown there last week for a rare form of ear reconstructive surgery, called med-por surgery. The family was informed the initial surgery day had to be postponed.

“Mending Kids, the organization that funded her first ear, they actually had it set up and he was in Tokyo doing his KISS tour,” said mother Danielle Carter.

Stanley, who was also born with microtia, had requested to be there for Arabella’s recovery. He showed up just as Arabella’s operation was coming to an end.

“He was so real, I didn’t even get an autograph,” said Carter. “I bought some things at the corner store to get an autograph, [and] didn’t get one.”

Carter said it was great talking to someone who had been through the operation and could remember every daunting detail.

The Carter family received another generous gift. Their friend back in Prince Albert, Marty Houle, bought them NHL tickets to the Penguins-Kings game.

“And then after we went downstairs, we met Robyn Regehr, and got his autograph, got pictures, and again you know a very real person,” said Carter.

Carter said Regehr offered the family support and talked hockey with her seven-year-old son Linken.

“And then Linken gave him [Regehr] one of his hockey cards which was so cute and he’s [Regehr] like ‘I’ll keep this close to my heart,’” said Carter.

The family is currently staying at Ronald McDonald House in Beverly Hills.

Arabella has an ear mould on the side of her head, holding her new ear in place.  The family is hoping to see the results of the operation on Wednesday.

Carter said despite all that’s happened her daughter remains in good spirits.

“She’s running around and playing with all the other kids. It’s more scary to keep her from not bumping her ear, than it is for her feeling like crap,” said Carter.

Mother and daughter will be in California for another week before returning home. Arabella will have her second ear operation in June.

The family was notified late last month that Mending Kids would help pay for the expensive surgery.
