Support continues for Rotary Trail

The construction of the Rotary Trail in Prince Albert is getting nearer to completion thanks to recent donations. 

Members of the Summit Run presented a donation of $10,000 to members of the Rotary Trail at City Hall on Friday. In addition, a land donation of 983 square meters from Fred Trach was recognized. 

“We know this has been a fantastic project for the community,” Dave Fischl, chairperson of the Prince Albert Multi-Use Recreational Trail committee said to the audience at the presentation. “With donors providing additional support, we see that the community members also believe in our dream.”

The Summit Run utilizes the Rotary Trail every year and the organization has donated $25,000 to the Rotary Trail over the last three years. 

“The trail is a perfect example about how community partners can come together to achieve a goal,” said Mayor Greg Dionne during his speech. “What continues to surprise me are the community partners that continue to come on to support the trail.”

Fischl said although he had hoped the trail would be fully completed sooner, he is optimistic it will continue to improve the city.

“It adds to the community and…it adds to where they live,” he said. “It makes an incredible difference for everyone.” 

Fischl pointed out the potential of the rotary trail once it extends around the whole city. 

“There’s so many opportunities for things like marathons to be run here, half marathons to be run here, there’s been talk about that already,” he said. “It’s just a matter of getting ourselves around the city and we’re that close.”

The Rotary Trail will eventually extend about 23 kilometers (km) around Prince Albert which will include a link to Little Red River Park. More than 18 kilometers (km) of the Trail are complete so far.
