Rob Norris won’t run again for Sask Party

Another prominent member of the Wall government is opting out of fighting the next election.

Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris has represented Saskatoon Greystone since 2007.

Norris says he never intended politics to be a long term career and believes he's made a difference in his two terms.

“As the Saskatchewan Party begins preparing for the next election, it is a natural transition point for some of us.”

“As I turn my attention to future career options, it is time to pass the baton to another candidate – someone who will bring energy and fresh ideas into the upcoming provincial race.”

Premier Brad Wall thanked Norris for his service to the province.

“Rob Norris is one of the most hard-working, dedicated and thoughtful individuals I have met,” Wall said. “In the early days of our government, he was given the challenge of some very important files right after he was first elected.”

Norris introduced Saskatchewan's first essential services law, which led to a court battle with labour, and led development of the province's immigration strategy.

Recent weeks have seen some of the founders of the Saskatchewan Party, like Finance Minister Ken Krawetz and Social Services Minister June Draude also announce they won't seek re-election.

The Saskatchewan Party has nominated 22 candidates for the 2016 election. It says 40 of the party's sitting MLAs plan to run in the next provincial election.
