The iconic Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina's downtown will be undergoing some changes after being bought up by a new owner.

Temple Hotels, the same company that owns the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa in Moose Jaw, will put up $32.8 million to take ownership of the long-standing hotel. The company announced the agreement Wednesday.

In a news release, Temple Hotels said it plans to do some renovations when it officially acquires the hotel at the end of March. They'll spend $6 million over three years to make improvements, which will include upgrades to guest rooms and refurbishing the lobby.

The 10-story hotel first opened in 1927, originally part of a group of hotels built and owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway. It has 224 rooms and nearly 14,000 square feet of meeting space, in addition to a long list of amenities. The list of famous guests who have stayed at the hotel includes Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, the Rolling Stones and Sir Paul McCartney.
