Regional park in Nipawin under flood watch

Jun 24, 2013 | 2:08 PM

The water is rising at Nipawin and District Regional Park.

“We've been warned now for a few days that we definitely have some high water coming,” said park manager Ian Webster.

Volunteers spent the better part of Sunday sandbagging and building a berm around the Twin Marine store.

“You know we started about nine o'clock in the morning and they were still finishing up at 10 at night,” said Webster.

In addition to the sandbagging efforts, docking systems were removed from the river, and all the house boats were moved to higher ground.

“We're pretty well right now as prepared as we can be, water is starting to rise, it's just going to be a matter of time” said Webster. He added that it's anyone's guess how much water will come from Alberta.

The E.B Campbell Dam, located near Carrot River, continues to dump water, lowering Tobin Lake. This may help to keep river levels down.

Webster said they expect the water level to peak either Tuesday or Wednesday.
