Memorial Cup tickets go on sale Thursday

Nov 28, 2012 | 3:53 PM

If you’re planning on attending the 2013 Mastercard Memorial Cup in Saskatoon, Thursday is your chance for tickets.

They go on sale to the public starting at 10 a.m. The Memorial Cup takes place from May 16 to 26.

Packages for the eight-game tournament will range in price from $95 to $595.

The last time Saskatoon hosted the Memorial Cup in 1989, seating at Credit Union Centre topped out at about 8,500. Upgrades to the stadium now have that number at 14,500.

Scott Ford, director of marketing and events at the Credit Union Centre, is expecting big things with the tournament.

“Our plan is to fill those seats,” said Ford. “And there are some new things happening. I think in ’89 they really didn’t have the FanFest component and some of the other festival type of events that surround the tournament. That is now part of the program so it’s going to be a lot more exciting for the fans.”

FanFest will include live music and entertainment after every game. There will be family activities with interactive games and displays for young fans. Your tickets get you into the events free of charge.

Also making an appearance will be some Saskatoon alumni, including every member of the 1989 Saskatoon Blades team which competed in the Memorial Cup making it to the final against the Swift Current Broncos.

You can purchase your tickets online at Ticketmaster.ca or by phone at (306) 938-7800 or 1-800-970-SEAT (7238). For all the event details head too www.mastercardmemorialcup.ca.
