Three Zellers stores to close in Saskatchewan

If you shop at the Zellers you're going to need to find a new store next year.

The Hudson Bay company has finally announced the fate of their remaining Zellers stores.

In January 2011, the U.S. based Target chain bought out many of the Zellers store locations to convert them into Target stores.

After confirming they will be opening a Target in the current Zellers location at Northgate Mall in Regina and two locations in Saskatoon, this left some people wondering what would happen to the rest.

The answer came on Thursday when HBC announced they will be closing most of their remaining Zellers stores by March 2013.

“We currently operate 64 stores that were not acquired by Target and did not have previously scheduled closures, so of those 64 there are three locations in Saskatchewan,” explained HBC spokesperson Tiffany Bourre.

Those three remaining Zellers stores in Saskatchewan, include one each in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Regina.

“We are considering options for certain locations, including potentially re-branding some stores which would result in some stores remaining open for the foreseeable future,” Bourre said.

With the closures across the country at least 6,400 people will lose their jobs.
