La Ronge business owners plead guilty to tax evasion

A couple from northern Saskatchewan has been prosecuted for tax evasion.

Quang Minh Ly and his wife Phung Ngu pleaded guilty Tuesday in La Ronge Provincial Court to tax evasion and were fined $62,192.

They were charged for failing to report income in 2006 and 2007 from the La Ronge Bakery and the Vickie Saigon Bistro restaurant, which they operated.

Ly was fined $13,518 for failure to report business income of $72,696 for the two years in question and Ngu was fined $33,160 for failure to report business income of $175,781 for the same years. In addition, Ngu was fined $15,514 for failing to collect, report, and remit the GST for those years.
