Green Party of Saskatchewan leader resigns

The Green Party of Saskatchewan's leader concedes that the party simply won't get any seats in the coming election and has resigned.

Larissa Shasko has been the leader of the Greens for the last five years. On Tuesday, she resigned her post in order to run the campaign of NDP hopeful Yens Pedersen in the Regina South constituency.

After running in six elections, Shasko insists she just wants to see someone she's campaigning for to win.

“I would like to see my time and my work during this campaign go towards electing someone,” she said.

She admits she didn't like being the figurehead for a party that's going through what she calls “growing pains”

“We have such a wide spectrum of organization right now that there wasn’t the individual manpower necessarily enough to focus on my riding.”

She also says she didn't like that the buck stopped with her, especially with the party recruiting Brendan Cross, a Regina candidate with a history of criminal convictions.
