Changes to Regina maternity wards after infant death

The death of a baby in Regina General Hospital's maternity ward back in March is triggering changes.

Newborm baby Cambria Shuba died after her mother fell asleep with the child in her arms.

The mother said a nurse insisted it was OK to do so.

Now, the Regina Qu'appelle Health Region is implementing new guidelines for child care on the maternity ward.

A statement by the family said they've been assured that will mean mothers and babies won't be allowed to sleep in the same bed.

The region will also conduct an external review later this year on the care model being used.
