Peter Ballantyne Chief ready for Assembly

The FSIN's Spring Legislative Assembly gets underway today in Onion Lake.

Among the issues likely to be discussed over the next two days will be Chief Guy Lonechild's leadership.

More than 25 chiefs want to end his leadership and have been pushing for a non-confidence vote.

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Chief Darrel McCallum plans to attend the assembly.

“In regards to the non-confidence (vote), if it happens it happens, I myself will just remain neutral and will continue to work on business. At times if I needed Mr. Lonechild to push any of my agenda items I have called him. So far he has been satisfactory,” said McCallum.

“At this point in time with all the agenda items we have, I think timing is of the essence. We need to have someone that is consistent and that continues to direct the FSIN. I am not sure what will be the outcome of this meeting at Onion Lake,' he said.

McCallum attended the bear pit session last week with the Premier and he is hoping there is some follow-up discussion at the assembly.

“There was a lot of healthy dialogue at that meeting. I guess that's the one thing I'd like to see, is that we don't just have those sessions without any follow up. What is the meaning then of having a bear pit session, if there isn't going to be any follow up?” he said.

McCallum said he would also like to hear more discussion around the Natural Resources Transfer Agreement that was discussed at a summit in Winnipeg.
