Qu’Appelle River swells with more water

People in Lumsden and Craven are once again casting wary eyes on the Qu'Appelle River as more water, caused by last week’s heavy rain, runs through the system.

Ken Blackmore, co-owner of the Snack Shack in Craven, is emotional as he watches water levels rise once again.

“I just don't want to see water anymore,” said Blackmore.

The snack shack has only been open since June 11, a month later than usual.

Blackmore says that earlier this spring more than three feet of water flooded the building that has stood there for more than a decade.

“Devastated, we got things cleaned up and going, built a dike and unexpectedly the water rose again,” said Blackmore.

Now, a four foot dike is the only thing standing between the Snack Shack and the overflowing Qu'Appelle River.
