New Fastball League comes to Prince Albert
The inaugural season of the Girls Prairie League Softball comes to Prime Ministers’ Park and Crescent Acres Park in Prince Albert June 3rd to 5th with the second weekend of league play. The first weekend was May 6-8 in St. Albert, Alberta.
The league consists of 7 teams each in U14 (Pee Wee), U16 (Bantam) and U19 (Midget) divisions. Each team will play the other three times during three league weekends with standings and statistics kept for all games. Playoffs and awards will be given out at the GPLS championship weekend July 22-24 in Calahoo, Alberta.
The league was created by Brett Harvie of Lloydminster to provide consistent, high caliber competition for the teams involved. Teams from across Alberta and Saskatchewan were invited to apply to the league. The Prince Albert Lake Boyz RV Pee Wee “A” and Bantam “A” Aces are the lone Saskatchewan entries in the league for 2011 with more teams from the province expected to join in 2012.
The Aces will be the featured games on Friday, June 3rd at Prime Ministers Park to begin the 57 game weekend. The Bantam Aces play the Lloydminster Rebels in a double header on PMP 1 Friday at 7:00 PM and 8:50 PM while the Pee Wees square off against Lloydminster on PMP 2 at 7:30 PM.
