Me Mum and Me: Paintings by Gayle Mascho and the late Helen Finney – Opening Today at JMC
Me Mum and Me: Paintings by
Gayle Mascho and the late Helen Finney
April 1 to 26
Opening: Saturday, April 2, 2:30 to 4:00
A mother and daughter exhibit featuring a variety of paintings by the late Helen Finney in acrylic, oil and watercolours, and the recent watercolour paintings of her daughter, Gayle Mascho.
Helen Finney grew up in Prince Albert and raised her family here, with her four daughters following in her footsteps – all very interested in art and with a leaning towards social activism. She became a member of a painting group that met in the “old” City Hall, the same space many of us paint in to this day. Helen took part in local and provincial exhibits and has paintings hanging in many homes and businesses throughout Saskatchewan, as well as in the permanent collections of several galleries. Helen Finney passed away March 2, 2008, at the age of 90.
Gayle is happy to think that she is following in me Mum’s footsteps—painting with a great group of people using that same second floor studio at the “old” Arts Centre. The only thing missing from this picture is John Hicks ringing the bell at 3 o’clock for tea time.
