The Prince Albert Raiders defeated the Saskatoon Blades 6-3 on Wednesday night and now trail the Blades 2-1 in the Eastern Conference Quarter Final best-of-seven series.

The Raiders got off to another solid start in Wednesday’s game and for the first time this series, scored the first goal of the game which proved to be the difference maker.

Igor Revenko opened the scoring for the Raiders five minutes into the game and gave the Raiders the lead for the first time this series. Brandon Herrod doubled the Raider lead to 2-0 when he was able to catch up to a loose puck that was chipped out of the Raider zone and beat goaltender Steven Stanford with a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot. The Raiders took a 2-0 lead and a 22-6 shot advantage into the second period.

For the second straight game, the Blades scored in the first minute of the second period and cut the Raider lead to one. They would add another just two minutes later to draw even with the Raiders.

A minute after the equalizer, Jordan Rowley, from the slot, stepped into a Brandon Herrod pass and gave the Raiders a 3-2 lead heading into the third.

Goaltender Jamie Tucker made one of his 37 stops of the night on a Curtis Nicholld breakaway early in the final frame to keep the Raider lead at one.

Justin Maylan collected his own rebound and beat Stanford six minutes in the third, giving the Raiders a 4-2 advantage.

The Blades were able to draw within one when Matej Stransky was able to beat Tucker with a shot through the five hole.

With two minutes left in the game Brandon Herrod was able to strip the Blades defender of the puck from behind their net and feed a pass to a trailing Mark McNeill who one timed the pass past Stanford in what proved to be the insurance marker. Igor Revenko scored his second of the night with an empty net goal with 12 seconds remaining in the game to cap off the 6-3 victory.

Revenko and Herrod each finished with two goals and one assist while Jonathan Parker had three assists in the victory.

The Raiders look to draw even with the Blades in game four of the series tomorrow night at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert.
