Mintos complete the sweep, advance to league championship
The Prince Albert Mintos are moving on to the Saskatchewan Midget AAA hockey final. They scored four unanswered power play goals in the second period on their way to a 5-2 win over the Notre Dame Argos to win the best of five semi final 3-0 in front of 623 fans at the Art Hauser Centre.
Landon Belchamber opened the scoring 3:57 into the first period blocking a shot at the Minto blueline and scoring on a shorthanded breakaway by ripping a wrister into the top corner on Argos starting goaltender Alexandre Savard.
However it was Minto goaltender Taran Kozun who shut the door on that same power play with a big save right after the Belchamber goal and added 10 more stops in the first period.
The Mintos started to pull away with Belchamber's power play goal less than 6 minutes into the second period. Tad Kozun would added two and Brennan Bosovich another power play goal to give the Mintos a 5-0 lead heading to the third period. Head Coach Tim Leonard said the key was staying disciplined and making the Argos pay for a steady stream to the penalty box in the second period. The Mintos would go 4-for-8 on the power play and killed off all four Argo power plays.
