Nomination meeting brings excitement

Mar 3, 2011 | 2:25 PM

Excitement is building in Shell Lake.

The community is playing host to about 1,200 Saskatchewan Party faithful for their nomination meeting tonight.

“That’s a very exciting thing, 1,200 voting members for the Saskatchewan Party in the riding of Rosthern Shellbrook just shows the enthusiasm and excitement,” said Patrick Bundrock, executive director of the Saskatchewan Party.

Making it even more interesting is Scott Moe is running to challenge currently sitting MLA Denis Allchruch, for the Rosthern Shellbrook riding.

Having someone running against a currently sitting MLA is rare, but it doesn’t speak to opinions of the MLA, instead to process, Bundrock said.

“We have an open process in which people can put their name forward for nomination, which then results nominations meeting.”

Bundrock said he likes seeing the excitement build with in the riding.

“You sell memberships, people get involved in the process, people get involved with the nomination meeting and voting. It’s just a very exciting process for political parties,” he said.

Memberships for the party in that riding have jumped from 150 to about 1,200 since the race was announced.

Registration begins at 6:30 this evening with the meeting beginning at 7. Results are expected a little after 9 p.m.
