Sask. mining industry optimistic about future prospects

Saskatchewan's mining industry is hoping for good things to come in the years ahead.

Kelvin Dereski, the head of the Saskatchewan Mining Association, notes the recession slowed investment in mining in Saskatchewan, but things are bouncing back.

“Current producers are expanding, and there's new players that want to get in,” Dereski said. “And BHP Billiton is still seriously considering building an operation in the province of Saskatchewan. That would be very, very good for the province in the long term.”

Dereski says there's a lot of enthusiasm and belief that the industry will continue to grow, and that should lead to more investment in the province.
