Local reporter watches the red carpet

It is the deemed the “biggest night in Hollywood.”

Tonight is the Academy Awards, and paNOW’s Ryan Pilon is there watching the action.

“I am standing on Hollywood Boulevard right now, about a block away from the Kodak Theatre where the Academy Awards will be held tonight, and this is about as close as I can get. The public is fenced off of the street,” he said over the phone.

“I have a good vantage point here. I am actually right across from the beginning of the red carpet so I am hoping to be able to see some of the Hollywood stars when they pull up.”

Pilon was on the scene hours before the event even started. He said the crowds were filling in and people were trying to pick their spot for when the crème-de-la-crème of Hollywood start arriving.

“The security is very tight, there are police everywhere and I have been told that we are all going to have to be screened before the stars arrive just to make sure it is safe.”

While he is quite a ways from the action, Pilon is taking in all he can of the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“The spectacle itself is amazing. Beside the red carpet there is a giant golden Oscar at the head of the red carpet and further down the street media has set up sets and stages getting ready for the big show. It’s amazing to see.”

The awards ceremony is scheduled at start at 7:30 p.m. and last about three hours.
