Sask. man in Libya heading home

The Saskatchewan woman is relieved her husband is no longer stuck in Libya.

Kirk Berseth was working on an oil rig in the North African country when the violence erupted.

He's safe now – in neighbouring Malta, but his wife said, not before some very tense moments.

Andrea Berseth said her husband and his crew knew they were vulnerable out in the middle of the desert by themselves.

They figured it was only a matter of time before their rig came under attack by armed rebels.

They would take turns watching for vehicles coming down the road,” she said.

Kirk was forced to flee into the desert, and wait while rebels ransacked the rig – steeling computers, vehicles, and whatever else they wanted.

He was shaken up, but was not hurt. He has since fled to the safety of neighbouring Malta.

Andrea is still trying to wrap her head around the predicament her husband found himself in.

“It’s almost something like out of a movie so it’s hard to believe it happened to your own family,” she said.

She said Kirk hopes to be back in Saskatchewan by the weekend.
