Mintos open playoffs with a win
The Mintos rookies performed to bring their team to a 6-3 win over Yorkton, opening their best of five Saskatchewan Midget AAA quarterfinal in front of just over 500 fans at the Art Hauser Centre.
Tad Kozun completed his hat trick with a shorthanded goal in the third period while Jordan Tkatch opened the scoring one one of three Minto power play goals.
Tkatch also assisted on three of the four unanswered Prince Albert goals in the second period as the Mintos outshot the Harvest 16-2 in the middle frame.
Adam Fauchoux and Jordan Swenson also got power play goals for the Mintos who ended up 3-for-6 with the man advantage.
Yorkton got two of their three goals in the third period when the game was no longer in doubt. Rookie goalie Taran Kozun made 15 saves to pick up the win.
Game two is Thursday night in Yorkton, with game three back in Prince Albert on Saturday night.
