City to give more information about annexation

The city is hoping to be able to provide residents with as much information as possible when they hold their next meeting on the South East Annexation.

On Monday, city council accepted a request from the city’s administration to have a few more weeks to prepare as much information to the public as possible.

In particular, the city report said it would need more time produce information about possible land uses in that area, and why it’s the most economical viable area in the city for light industrial development.

City planner Yves Richard said the city would also include information on the possible buffer strip designs and to further field questions from the public that may arise regarding the proposed development.

He said it the city also hoped to provide detailed development cost estimates.

The original proposed date for the second meeting was Feb. 10, but city council allowed more time for administration to complete their report.

The new date has yet to be determined.

“Once a date is selected, we will provide public notice and mail a letter to the residents backing onto Marquis Road plus all the residents that were at the last meeting,” Richard said.

Though the city is hosting these meetings, it does not have to by law. Under normal circumstances a city can simply go through the process of annexing land and developing it and only has to hold public hearing in council chambers.

The city is planning on annexing about 300 acres in the south-east portion of the city, south of Marquis Road.

According to the city, development will only occur on smaller portion to the west of the area.

The next meeting is expected to be announced in the next two weeks.
