Police clamp down on snowmobiles in the city

Feb 9, 2011 | 5:24 AM

Prince Albert Police Service are warning against giving into the desire of riding snowmobile within city limits.

A recent blitz targeting snowmobilers resulted in five tickets being issued, four for unregistered riders and one for riding in city limits.

It’s something police will be doing more of said, Sgt. Gwen Kennedy.

“We have snowmobiles in the police service now that we can use so we will on a regular basis be out at the Little Red River Park monitoring and looking for it, as well as other areas in town were there have been reports,” she said.

There have been a higher number of reports in that park this season, according to Ken Hunter, Bylaws Manager for the city.

His department released a list this week that had the operation of snowmobiles and ATV’s as the most common infraction this season.

Areas such as Little Red River Park will be receiving extra attention said Kennedy.

“Of particular concern is the damage to the groom trails.”

People found in violation of the bylaw face a $150 fine and risk having their vehicle seized.
