Cats taken from Elrose shelter still waiting at Saskatoon SPCA

Sixty-four cats are still playing the waiting game as their owner and the SPCA battle things out in court after the animals were taken from a shelter in Elrose last month.

“The majority of the cats are continuing to improve,” said Frances Wach, the executive director of the Saskatchewan SPCA. She insists the animals are better off with them, adding they were seized after complaints came in about the animal's well-being.

The cats, as well as turtles, a dog and an iguana, used to live with Dolores LaPlante. She runs the Saskatchewan Alley Cat Allies shelter out of her home, and filed an appeal last week after the court gave her cats to the SPCA.

“Her lawyer has got 30 days to file documents outlining their reasons for the appeal, and we would have 15 days to respond,” said Wach.
