UPDATE: Pauchay to be released

Jan 25, 2011 | 5:48 AM

Christopher Pauchay is scheduled to be released from prison today.

He is the man whose night of drinking led to the freezing deaths of his two young daughters in January 2008 on the Yellow Quill First Nation.

Pauchay has served two-thirds of the nearly three-year sentence he received in the deaths of three-year-old Kaydance and one-year-old Santana.

The Parole Board of Canada noted Pauchay's long history of substance abuse, but said he has the perserverance and determination to make positive changes.

Pauchay's sister is hoping that with the release, their family can now get some peace.

Sheila Pauchay-Neapatung says the media attention that this case has brought about has been tough.

“(I) don’t like it, because it just brings back so many, it just makes me feel ugly,” she said.

People in the community remain supportive of her brother, Pauchay-Neapatung said.

She said when she last spoke to him a few weeks ago he was excited to get out.

Pauchay-Neapatung said she feels confident that he has learned from his mistakes.
