Two Saskatchewan mills slated to reopen in 2011
Some 300 mill workers in Carrot River and Hudson Bay, who lost their jobs when Weyerhaeuser closed their mills in 2007, could be going back to work later this year.
BC based, C&C Wood Products, who operate in Saskatchewan under the name Edgewood Forest products plan to bring the Carrot River sawmill back into production July 4 before restarting the plywood facility in Hudson Bay on Nov. 1.
“There are factors that could influence (those) start-up dates either way but those are what we are planning,” said Ron Dunn, vice president of corporate development for C&C.
Poor market conditions brought on by the collapse of the U.S. housing market was the main factor behind the domino effect of mill closures in Saskatchewan.
