Man concealing axe in Prince Albert hotel

Charges have been laid against a man for carrying an axe in a Prince Albert Hotel.

At about 4 a.m. on January 1, city police responded the 3200 block of Second Avenue West to a weapons complaint involving a 22-year-old Prince Albert man.

“He is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and that concealed weapon was an axe. It was inside the hotel,” Sargent Kelly McLean said.

McLean said the problem is more than just owning an axe.

“There is absolutely no reason to have that axe concealed inside a hotel in the city of P.A.,” McLean said.

McLean said it can be a problem for police in this city, especially for newer officers, because they never really know what they’re up against.

“In this case we had a weapons complaint, it wasn’t like we’d just run into this guy in the hallway,” he said.

“Our guys were ready to go.”

The 22-year-old was released after arrest but will appear in court in February.
