Sports stories of 2010, #2 McNeill emerges as top NHL prospect
A great sports moment of 2010 was the rise in prominence of Mark McNeill.
McNeill became the best NHL prospect the Prince Albert Raiders have developed since Kyle Chipchura was drafted by Montreal Canadians in the first round #18 overall in 2004.
McNeill, who was the Raiders’ fifth overall pick in the 2008 bantam draft, used the disappointment of being the last cut from the Canadian Under-18 team this past summer as motivation.
The Edmonton native sprinted from the gate scoring 15 goals and 21 assists in the first 34 games and vaulted up the NHL central scouting rankings. By mid-November, McNeill was ranked 6th among WHL skaters for the June 2011 NHL draft and that was before two significant achievements.
