Rotary Club’s Work on Rotary Trail Continues

The Prince Albert Rotary Club has been active in a number of endeavours which benefit the community but the Rotary Trail is likely the largest.

On June 14, 2004 Prince Albert multi-use trail got it's name – The Rotary Trail – after the Prince Albert Rotary Club contributed $100,000.00 toward the construction of the trail.  Multi-Use Trail Committee Chairperson Dave Fischl made the announcement on the riverbank where part of the trail had already been started.

 
Most of the fund raising was done in 2004 and the Spring of 2005.  Many of the pledges were over a 2 to 6  year span

The project has now seen 17km of trail being built. The ultimate goal is to have the trail circle the city.

Approximately 5 years ago, the club raised around $650,000 which it has given to the city towards the cost of the trail. There has also been a number of grants and donations.

There is a Recognition Kiosk with a large granit plaque on the trail at 3rd ave. east with a list of the donors.

The trail begins at the tracks by the Prince Albert Pen, goes to the River then to 20th avenue west up to 15th avenue east and behind Berezowski school up to Olive Diefenbaker Drive and through to St Francis and around to Marquis Road and all the way to Central Avenue.

Currently, the building of the trail is stalled or proceeding slowly as various negotiations need to be completed for more trail to be built.

It is an ongoing project that the whole community can be involved in helping to complete.
