An 18-month-old child from Balcarres spent Christmas at the Regina General Hospital with serious injuries and now has taken a turn for the worse.

The toddler arrived at the hospital in Regina on Dec. 19 with injuries to his arms, legs and head.

But Sgt. Neil Tremblay with Fort Qu'Appelle RCMP said just how the child received these injuries is still a mystery.

“At this point we're still trying to determine exactly what has caused the medical condition the child is currently in – whether it's a criminal act or a medical condition or both,” he said.

Tremblay said there are no suspects at this point since the RCMP has not determined if this is a criminal investigation. However, the RCMP has conducted interviews with people who may have information on how the child was hurt.

“We've spoken to everyone, in terms of interviews last week, that we needed to speak to. We will continue to do that as the situation changes or advances,” Tremblay said.

The General Hospital is providing daily updates to RCMP on the condition of the child.
