City slows down for the holidays

Dec 24, 2010 | 5:43 AM

The City of Prince Albert will be closing its doors over the holidays.

Starting Christmas Eve hours will be reduced or facilities will be closed until Dec. 28, said Jody Boulet, recreation manager.

“A lot of families are going to be together and we are encouraging people to go out to Kinsmen ski hill and the Cosmo Lodge,” he said, adding the Alfred Jenkins Field House and the Art Hauser Centre will be open some hours over the break.

“In a lot of cases everything gets back to normal Dec. 28, when all of our offices continue with the normal operating hours.”

He said it’s important for staff to get the time off to spend with their families, but they don’t want to keep things closed for too long.

Keri Sexsmith, transportation project manager, said the only day buses won’t be running is Christmas day. They stop running an hour early on Christmas Eve.

“People need to get to where they need to go. Even around Christmas there is shopping and groceries and work to get to,” she said.

As for New Year’s Eve, she reminds people it’s Ding in the New Year.

“New Year’s Eve we will shut down at 5:30 (p.m.) to give the drivers a bit of a break so they can go home and eat supper and come back and drive the rest of the night,” she said.

Boulet said, some facilities will have restricted hours on New Year’s Eve and they will be closed New Year’s Day and Jan. 3, the statutory holiday.

On Jan. 4, everything will open and back to normal.
