Remembering Constable Tim Ballantyne

Dec 20, 2010 | 5:12 AM

A family man. A good police officer. Got along with everyone.

Those are some of the descriptions people have given about Constable Tim Ballantyne, the man who died in a rollover early Saturday on Highway 3.

Megan Pangatungan, who has known Ballantyne for years, said he was an exceptional officer.

“We live in the West Flat and it seemed that whenever someone either broke into our vehicles or our house, Tim was the one to come,” Pangatungan said.

Pangatungan said he often went above and beyond the line of duty, such as when her child was sick and Pangatungan and her husband had to take her to Saskatoon.

“If he knew we weren’t home, he would up the patrols around our area and just keep an eye on our place, just to make sure nothing was going on,” Pangatungan said.

Pangatungan described Ballantyne as an extremely nice person, who loved his family very much.

“He was a great guy and he was all about his family. Like, my husband works at the hospital, and when they had had their baby girl last year, he was beaming from ear to ear and he was so proud, (saying), ‘I’m a daddy again and I have a beautiful baby girl,’” Pangatungan said.

Pangatungan found out about the news when other members of the Prince Albert Police Service wrote “Rest in Peace Tim” on Facebook.

“I (didn’t think) it could be that Tim, because I had just seen him a few days before. Then I opened the paNOW website and there it was, and I think my jaw hit the floor … that’s not supposed to be, I had only seen him the other day and he was fine,” Panatungan said.

The cause of the accident still hasn’t been determined.

RCMP continues to investigate.
