CNC Chritmas Gathering and News

The December 14th CNC Christmas gathering was wonderful.  We had another full house.  It was great to greet friends and colleagues and pause for a moment in this hectic season.  We especially enjoyed the visit from Santa after the presentations. 
 
Thanks Doug Kinar for using your influence to have Santa take some time out of his schedule to drop by.  Thanks to everyone who brought desserts to share during the networking time before and after the meeting. 
 
Here are some highlights of the gathering:
1. Round Table – we had an abbreviated round table to make time for the 2 presentations and social time.

Karen Ferris – YWCA Regional Newcomer Centre in Prince Albert
The center is located at 107 C – 15th Street West (next to General Paint on 15th Street)
We are one of 11 such Gateways across the Province in partnership with service providers in each area, and were launched through the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration.
 
The RNC is a first stop centre that assists and supports individuals, families, employers, agencies and service providers. This is accomplished through accessing information about the available resources and services and giving this information out to our clients. 
 
We have a special focus on immigrants and foreign workers, however our services are also avilable to all people moving to Prince Albert and area from other parts of SK and Canada.  Our services are free and as well, we have 3 computers and free internet, photocopying and faxing. 
 
We can assist our clients with navigating through all government forms and programs.  Our settlement advisors can help make a plan as to what services the client requires and what services are available to fit their needs.

 Gen Klingenberg and Cynthia Coyer – To Save A Life (TSAL) Prince Albert
To Save A Life is a group of people who have a passion to bring forward the critical social issue of suicide.  TSAL – Prince Albert desires to be a voice to those who suffer in silence and bring hope to those who feel trapped in their dispair and feel they have to take permanent actions to a temporary situation.  Suicide crosses all social boundaries and has no regard to age, race or social status – it affects everyone.
 
As a group, we are bringing the movie, To Save A Life to the E.A. Rawlinson Centre on January 15th and 16th, 2011 at 7:00 pm, along with Prince Albert Community Services.  The film addresses suicide, depression, unplanned teen pregancy, bullying and self-injury (cutting), bringing these destructive behaviours to the forefront.
 
TSAL – Prince Albert is relying on the support of volunteers who have a desire to touch the hearts and lives of our city and open the doors to the community to let them know that there is help available.  Life is not always easy, and these individuals need to  know that help is available to them no matter their social standing.
 
We want them to know that their lives count; they have value, purpose and potential.  They need to know that there is hope and there is help available to them regardless of who they are or where they  are from.
 
In order for this event to be a success, we need to spread the word.  We are asking your group or organization to put up posters promoting the event and have invites available.  (see attached posters, tickets to the show and a copy of this information for you to hand out)  Hard copy posters and tickets are also available – please contact us for tickets, posters, information or volunteering.  Thank you
