Public Service and SGEU to Support Food Banks

Dec 6, 2010 | 6:45 PM

The Saskatchewan public service and Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU) public service sector are once again teaming up to participate in a joint food drive in support of provincial food banks, from December 6 to 17.

Food collection bins will be set up in government buildings around Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and in many other locations around the province.

“Public service employees and SGEU members are part of your community,” SGEU's Public Service/Government Employees Bargaining Committee Chair Barry Nowoselsky said. “We want to do it to help people less fortunate than ourselves.”

The Public Service/SGEU Food Bank Drive will support CBC Radio-Canada's Comfort & Joy Campaign.

This is the second year that government employees have been involved in this campaign. In 2009, they raised more than 5,000 pounds of food.

Nowoselsky also challenged other public sector employers and unions to join in support of this worthwhile cause at this time of festive giving.
