Santa comes early to Northern Saskatchewan

Dec 5, 2010 | 7:29 AM

Some kids in Northern Saskatchewan have made Santa’s nice list again this year.

An annual event called Santa Takes Flight, aims to bring some Christmas cheer to children in these remote communities.

Transwest Air loads up a plane full of toys , candies and oranges today. It is taking them up to the Athabasca communities including Wollaston, Fond du Lac and Stony Rapids.

“It’s our way of giving back to the communities. We deal with the Athabasca communities every day.

They are as much a part of Transwest Air as we are a part of the north,” said Debbie Wrightson, manager of customer relations and sales.

“This is our 11th annual Santa Takes Flight and it just gets bigger and better every year.”
Wrightson said, some of the highlights include the smiles on the kids’ faces and the excitement when they see Santa coming through the door.

“These kids don’t normally get the opportunity to come down to Prince Albert or Saskatoon and see Santa in the malls or take part in the Christmas hype that goes on in the cities.”

More than 1,200 children will get the experience of seeing Santa Takes Flight come to their community this year.
