Accused in Cayman murder to be retried

The case surrounding the murder of Martin Gareau continues.

The Prince Albert man was killed in May 2008 in the Cayman Islands.

Josue Carillon-Perez was originally charged with the murder. He was found not guilty in July 2009.

The case was appealed and set to go back to trial in September.

According to the Cayman News Service, the trial did not go forward because Perez fought the appeal and the decision to re-try Perez was given to the United Kingdom Privy Council, the UK’s highest court.

The Cayman News Service reported, on Friday, that the Privy Council decided Perez will be retried.

The accused is currently in custody and will appear before a judge next month to set his new trial date for 2011.
